
Why Your Infrared Heater Keeps Dying (And How to Stop It)
Let’s be honest: most infrared heaters aren’t built for the real world. The second you put them in a spot with high humidity or a few stray splashes, they start to struggle. Water gets inside, things short out, and the heating elements rust away faster than you can replace them. It’s frustrating, and it’s a waste of money. That’s why we stopped building “standard” heaters and started using IPX5-rated enclosures.
What does IPX5 actually mean for you?
In plain English? It means your heater can take a hit. An IPX5 rating means the unit can handle water jets hitting it from any angle. We do this by sealing up every electrical junction and using gaskets that act like a raincoat for your wiring. If you’re running a shop floor, this is a lifesaver. You don’t have to panic when someone splashes water nearby or when the cleaning crew comes through. The heater just keeps humming along without blowing a fuse. We also added anti-fogging coatings to the quartz tubes. If you’ve ever seen a heater get cloudy with condensation, you know the problem—the heat just bounces around and doesn’t actually reach you. These coatings keep the surface crystal clear, so you get the full blast of heat every time you flip the switch.
Saving the “Guts” of the Heater
Moisture is basically poison for a heating filament. When water vapor sneaks past a cheap seal, it eats away at the tungsten or ruins the halogen gas. By sealing the unit tight, we stop that chemical breakdown from happening. You aren’t spending your weekends swapping out dead units or calling a technician. It just lasts longer. Period.
The Trade-off (Because nothing is perfect)
Here is the catch. To make something waterproof, you need beefier seals and a tougher housing. This makes the unit a bit larger. It also means the internal electronics are tucked away in a tighter spot, which can trap heat.You have to give the unit some breathing room. If you cram it into a tiny, airtight enclosure without any airflow, the control board might overheat and shut itself down to save its own skin—even if it’s perfectly waterproof. Just make sure your mounting bracket lets the air move. We built these for the messy, wet environments where a normal heater would burn out in a month. Just wire it up, seal your joints, and let the hardware handle the moisture.
