Ze worden juist vernietigd door hun omgeving. Als je in een werkplaats werkt waar het vochtig is, er olie op spatten of er constante condensatie is, weet je wat er gebeurt. Vuil komt terecht op de gloeiend hete kwartsbuizen, waardoor er ‘hot spots’ ontstaan. Hierdoor barsten de glazen buizen of brandt het filamengordijn uit.
